~ Painting, Egg Shell Carving, Gourd Carving and Wood Burning ~

I was born in the United Kingdom and emigrated to Canada in 1981
Gradated from Liverpool College of Art.

Where did I get the inspiration?

During a vacation in Africa, while wandering through the markets I saw painted ostrich eggs. Those eggs were painted by the local artists. I was intrigued by the use of an "Egg" to create such an artistic piece.
Upon my return, I set myself on a journey using eggs as a medium to release my imagination into artistic creations.
I  have  been creating unique, artistic pieces using simple and sometimes complicated mediums for many years.
Carving Ostrich, Emu and Goose egg shells are just a few of my passions.
Since holding my first ostrich egg I have been intrigued by the porcelain color, texture and amazing depth of Ostrich Eggs Shells.
Once the shells are empty, cleaned and sterilized, I am ready to draw my design onto the shell.
Sometimes it takes me as long as six months to carve and create one of these beautiful works of art.
I am often asked how delicate the shells are to work with?  I usually have a handful of broken shells on hand to demonstrate the hardness and thickness of the Ostrich Shell.
Emu egg shells have three to four colored layers. Ranging from the outta layer which is a beautiful emerald green. The final layer is the white layer, the membrane of the egg. I add a hardener to the emu eggs to protect all colored layers of my finished piece.

I also Carve and Paint Gourds. They are a little more complicated to carve as the layers are not as hard as eggs shells.

All of my pieces are one of a kind and unique. I produce customs pieces to order. Many of my unique creations are in private collections all over the world.

In 2008 I appeared on CTV's "Regional Contact,” Such a wonderful journey I have been on since my appearance on the show.

My work has been exhibited and sold in Canada, Australia, France, Egypt, USA and the UK.
